Interaction Manager
Like in Present, when working with slicers in Publish, you can define interactions in the Interaction Manager by checking and unchecking the relevant items and you can edit a number of options relating to the slicer (Slicer Settings and so on) from the slicer heading.
Add a New Slicer
Add a new slicer using the Interaction manager by clicking the Add New Slicer button and then completing the details in the New Slicer panel. This allows you to create a brand new slicer that is local to this publication.
Note: You can also add an existing slicer to your publication by dragging it from the Content panel (underneath its discovery) and dropping it onto the Interaction Manager. This allows you to re-use an existing slicer in this publication.
- For a step-by-step guide to adding a new slicer, see Publication Slicers and Interactions.
New Slicer dialog
When adding a new slicer, you need to step through each of the pages in the New Slicer dialog specifying the following details:
- Selecting the Data Source and the relevant elements for your new slicer.
- Specifying a Title for your new slicer.
The new slicer is created and added to the Interaction Manager. You can add interactions for the slicer by selecting the checkboxes alongside the relevant visuals.
Edit Slicer Settings
Right-click the slicer in the Interaction Manager and select Slicer Settings from the context menu. The Slicer Settings panel opens.

Elements
Select those elements that should be included in the slicer when published. You can only select elements where your slicer is not linked to a discovery; that is, where it was either created on-the-fly in the publication or it has been "unlinked" from its Discovery.
Linked Slicer
Where the slicer is linked to a discovery, you will see the following in the Elements panel:
- Click Linked Discovery to open the discovery that the slicer is associated with. If you want to change which elements are included on the slicer wherever it appears (that is, on the discovery, in the publication, and any other instances), you should edit its elements in the Linked Discovery.
- Click Unlink to break the link between your slicer and the linked discovery. Breaking this link will mean that the slicer is no longer connected to / affected by changes to the slicer in Discover. Once the slicer is unlinked, the elements tree is shown (see below).
Unlinked Slicer
From the Elements panel, select those elements that you want to include in the slicer:
There are three ways to determine the slicer's elements:
- Free Selection: Select the elements from the hierarchy that you want to include on the slicer.
- Level: This option is relevant when working with OLAP or Tabular hierarchies, or regular SQL hierarchies. When creating a slicer based on a regular hierarchy, select this option to specify a particular level of the given hierarchy.
- Lists: Choose this option to use a custom list as the slicer.
Non Empty Filter
Go to the Non Empty Filter tab, to hide empties from the slicer. For more information, see Empties Logic.
Delete a Slicer
This action deletes the slicer from the publication.
